New Fuji
Creating a comprehensive atomic design system for a local sushi restaurant with an emphasis on improving readability and accessibility.

Project Overview
Challenge
New Fuji, a local sushi restaurant, had a strong retro aesthetic, based on 70’s and 80’s Japanese pop culture, but in implementing their design the website suffered from some accessibility issues. Poor colour contrast made text difficult to read, inconsistent design elements disrupted the user experience, and a lack of responsiveness caused issues across different screen sizes. Our team was tasked with creating a comprehensive atomic design system to improve readability, accessibility, and usability while preserving the brand’s bold visual identity. By defining a structured system of styles, variables, and components, we aimed to enhance design consistency, ensure accessibility compliance, and create a seamless experience across all devices.
Objective
- To define a design system that preserved New Fuji’s unique personality while improving accessibility.
